Located in Guangzhou, China, a city steeped in maritime history and cultural richness, the completed interior design project by NIHILII STUDIO captures the essence of its surroundings, drawing inspiration from the city’s heritage as a bustling port and the gateway to the maritime Silk Road.
Architectural Concept
The interior space, spanning two levels, unfolds as a testament to Guangzhou’s maritime significance. As visitors step in from the street, they are greeted by a striking façade featuring a perforated stainless steel grille and aluminum panels, setting the stage for an immersive experience. The material transitions, complemented by a wave-shaped aluminum sheet, guide visitors seamlessly through the space.
Tranquility and Openness
Once inside, a sense of tranquility and openness pervades the atmosphere. An elevated wooden platform offers sweeping views of the entire space, while a blue staircase, reminiscent of the sea, emerges as a focal point, infusing the interior with a coastal ambiance. Ground floor elements such as aluminum frames, glass curtain walls, and concrete columns evoke imagery of a bustling dockyard, further enhancing the maritime theme.
Montage Technique
Employing a montage technique, the design weaves together scenes related to the sea, shipping, and port activities. Dynamic perspectives and associations unfold as viewers’ gazes traverse the space, eliciting a narrative and flashback effect. Strategic placement of furniture, display stands, and partitions not only accentuates core elements but also guides circulation and showcases products, seamlessly blending form with function.
Stimulating Imagination
Through a careful orchestration of color, texture, and form, the design stimulates viewers’ imagination, inviting them on a journey through Guangzhou’s maritime history. Each element within the space harmonizes to create a rhythmic transition between scenes, offering visitors an immersive and engaging experience rooted in the city’s rich cultural tapestry.
Embracing the historical and cultural context of Guangzhou, the interior of HARMAY Guangzhou serves as a captivating ode to the city’s maritime legacy, beckoning visitors to embark on a voyage of exploration and discovery.
