Unveiling the Sanxingdui Museum

Rediscovering Cultural Heritage

Located in De Yang Shi, China, the Sanxingdui Museum stands as a testament to China’s rich cultural legacy. Designed by CSWADI, this architectural marvel pays homage to the ancient Sanxingdui civilization, dating back 4,800 years, and its profound influence on global bronze culture.

Park Remodeling

The Sanxingdui relic site, nestled along the Yazi River, underwent extensive archaeological excavations, uncovering national treasure-level artifacts. To accommodate the growing collection and visitor influx, the existing museum park underwent a transformation, expanding to encompass a sprawling area of 54,400 square meters.

Redefining Visitor Experience

The museum’s design not only revitalizes the physical space but also reimagines the visitor experience. By reorganizing the park’s circulation and integrating new and existing buildings, visitors embark on a counterclockwise journey, weaving through the new museum, digital halls, and research centers in a cohesive narrative.

Embracing Nature

Set against the backdrop of lush greenery and the meandering Yazi River, the museum’s design harmonizes with its natural surroundings. Three undulating mounds, inspired by ancient Shu Kingdom ruins, blend seamlessly with the landscape, symbolizing a dialogue between history and environment.

Symbolic Architecture

The museum’s exterior, adorned with massive bronze “Eyes,” serves as portals between the past and present. These iconic features not only illuminate the interior but also establish a spiritual connection with the ancient relics, inviting visitors on a journey through time.

Architectural Elements

Crafted from chrysanthemum yellow granite and low-iron glass, the museum’s exterior exudes a sense of solidity and authenticity. Inside, column-free exhibition halls and immersive narratives guide visitors through the archaeological wonders of Sanxingdui.

Immersive Exhibitions

Spanning two above-ground floors and two underground levels, the museum’s exhibition halls offer a captivating journey through the archaeological narrative. Flexible design elements allow for dynamic exhibition layouts, ensuring an engaging experience for visitors of all ages.

Cultural Integration

Beyond its architectural grandeur, the Sanxingdui Museum serves as a cultural hub, offering amenities such as cafes, rest areas, and open theaters. These spaces foster dialogue and reflection, allowing visitors to connect with both the artifacts and the natural beauty that surrounds them.

A Gateway to the Past

As visitors explore the Sanxingdui Museum, they embark on a transcendent journey through China’s ancient civilization. Through its architectural brilliance and immersive exhibitions, the museum not only preserves the legacy of Sanxingdui but also invites visitors to become part of its enduring story.
