Introduction
The South University of Science and Technology Campus (SUSTC) Phase II, designed by Architecturestudio, commenced operation in October 2020. Comprising Plot A (SUSTC Center) and Plot C (College of Humanities and Academic Exchange Center), this project aims to enrich the campus experience for students and faculty alike.
Plot A: SUSTC Center
Positioned prominently at the campus’s western entrance, the SUSTC Center serves as a focal point for academic and social activities. With a focus on sustainability, the center boasts a dining area, library, and service complex. The integration of green spaces and a transparent design ethos fosters a seamless connection between the indoors and outdoors.
Plot A: Design Highlights
The annular system employed ensures cohesion between diverse building functions, creating vibrant public spaces. These spaces, adorned with warm-colored exteriors, offer an inviting atmosphere for students and faculty to engage in various activities. Stones, terracotta slabs, and glass elements guide occupants into the buildings while maintaining aesthetic harmony.
Plot C: College of Humanities and Academic Exchange Center
Inspired by traditional Lingnan garden architecture, Plot C embodies the essence of regional culture in a contemporary setting. With a layout that harmonizes with the surrounding landscape, the College of Humanities and Academic Exchange Center comprises two distinct buildings—each complementing the natural terrain.
Plot C: Design Features
The College of Humanities integrates various departments within its serene surroundings, utilizing courtyards to create tranquil learning environments. Similarly, the Academic Exchange Center prioritizes functional connectivity and spatial harmony, with the inner courtyard serving as a focal point for academic discourse and communal engagement.
