Introduction
The Tasik Creative and Innovation Center, envisioned by SHAU Indonesia, embodies a ‘socio-climatic’ design approach tailored to the context of West Java, Indonesia. Initiated by former Governor Ridwan Kamil, the center aims to support emerging creative communities and individual artists in Tasikmalaya, renowned for its weaving craftsmanship.
Design Philosophy
Situated within the Dadaha sports complex, known for its bustling stadium, the center integrates seamlessly with the existing urban fabric. Retaining the original parking lot, the design elevates the auditorium and exhibition spaces, creating a dynamic spatial configuration. This decision allows for ground-level parking while offering a captivating vista of a public plaza, adorned with contemporary sculptures.
Architectural Features
Crafted as a tropical cultural hub, the center features balconies, terraces, and semi-outdoor spaces, beckoning visitors to immerse themselves in the creative atmosphere. A designated route through the building, aligned with the exhibition area, promotes accessibility and encourages spontaneous engagement with ongoing artistic endeavors.
Functional Spaces
In addition to exhibition spaces, the center encompasses co-working areas and an auditorium for events and screenings. Collaborating with URGTSK, a local creative community, SHAU Indonesia ensured that user needs were central to the design process, fostering a sense of ownership and inclusivity.
Sustainable Design
The building’s façade, adorned with woven elements, serves both an aesthetic and functional purpose, reducing solar heat gain and shading the interior spaces. Careful consideration of ventilation and natural lighting minimizes the reliance on air conditioning, enhancing energy efficiency and environmental sustainability.
Conclusion
The Tasik Creative and Innovation Center stands as a testament to innovative design thinking and community engagement. By seamlessly blending functionality, aesthetics, and sustainability, the center emerges as a vibrant hub for artistic expression and cultural exchange, poised to catalyze creativity and inspire generations to come in West Java.
