Situated within a hotel unit in Ponta Delgada, Portugal, Restaurante kOi has been a culinary staple since 2004. Despite its connection to the hotel’s central courtyard, which boasts an oriental-inspired garden and a serene water mirror inhabited by carp, the restaurant was in need of revitalization.
Blending Interior and Exterior Spaces
The driving force behind the project was the restaurant’s strong connection to the surrounding garden. Seeking to bring the outdoors inside, the architects opted for total permeability between interior and exterior spaces, enhancing the sense of spaciousness and luminosity within the restaurant.
A Garden Oasis
Restaurante kOi is conceived as an interior garden, seamlessly integrated with its exterior counterpart. Vegetation cascades from the ceilings, echoing the lush greenery of the courtyard. Artificial lighting strategically highlights these natural elements, creating a captivating ambiance. Additionally, acoustic panels, shaped in the form of carp, not only serve their intended purpose but also symbolize prosperity, longevity, and fertility.
Versatile Dining Spaces
While the restaurant maintains a cohesive design, it offers various dining areas to accommodate different preferences. Traditional dining tables coexist with cozy lounge areas, providing flexibility for patrons throughout the day. Whether it’s a casual meal or a formal gathering, Restaurante kOi caters to diverse dining experiences.
Noble Materials for Durability
The selection of materials prioritized both elegance and durability to ensure ease of maintenance without compromising comfort. Every element, from the furnishings to the finishes, reflects a commitment to quality and longevity.
Restaurante kOi stands as a testament to the harmonious blend of nature-inspired design and functional elegance, offering guests a captivating dining experience immersed in the beauty of its surroundings.
