Situated in Valler Tal, Italy, the Silena Hotel, formerly known as the historic ‘Moarhof,’ stands as a testament to architectural evolution across generations. Under the skilled craftsmanship of noa* network of architecture, the hotel has undergone a remarkable transformation in 2022, marking a new era while honoring its rich heritage.
A Fusion of Traditions
In 2017, the owners of Hotel Silena embarked on a bold endeavor to revitalize the property, inspired by their travels through Asia and captivated by the region’s customs and rituals. Drawing from these influences, noa* embarked on a journey to infuse the hotel with elements of Asian design, weaving a narrative that seamlessly integrates classic elements with contemporary sensibilities.
Welcoming Spaces
Upon entering the hotel, guests are greeted by a newly designed entrance adorned with a round wooden portal, crafted using traditional Asian woodworking techniques. The space exudes a sense of tranquility, with walls painted in black and accented with elements inspired by Asian culture, such as delicate bonsai trees and Tibetan prayer wheels.
Harmonious Design Elements
Throughout the hotel, dark oak serves as a unifying material, echoing the surrounding bog landscape from which the original farmhouse derived its name. Custom furniture crafted from oak and minimalist design elements create a serene ambiance, evoking a sense of connection to the earth.
Tranquil Suites
The hotel’s six new suites offer a harmonious blend of light and shadow, with geometrically patterned wooden partitions creating a play of light that dances across the rooms. Inspired by Japanese design principles, the suites feature well-defined spaces for relaxation, meditation, and ceremonial tea, seamlessly blending indoor and outdoor living.
Serene Wellness Retreat
At the hotel’s top floor, a wellness area inspired by Japanese Onsen springs awaits, offering guests a sanctuary for relaxation and rejuvenation. The open-air pool, adorned with volcanic stone-like steps, invites guests to immerse themselves in the meditative ambiance, creating a serene retreat amidst the picturesque landscape.
Bridging Cultures
Through the meticulous design and thoughtful integration of Asian influences, noa* has transformed the Silena Hotel into a harmonious blend of tradition and modernity. In this alpine sanctuary, architecture becomes a storyteller, weaving together the narratives of two distant cultures in a seamless union of past and present.
