Nestled within the bustling Son Tra Peninsula in Da Nang, Vietnam, Shelter Stay by TAA DESIGN reimagines urban dwellings on a 100m² plot of land. Embracing the constraints of typical urban plots in Vietnam, the project aims to craft a captivating living environment that seamlessly integrates with nature, offering residents abundant opportunities for exploration. The design concept of Shelter Stay serves as a blueprint for unlocking the hidden potential of urban homes and fostering a deeper connection with the natural world.
The Urban Tree Block: A Vertical Oasis
Departing from conventional townhouse structures, Shelter Stay draws inspiration from modular tree blocks to create a unique vertical living experience. Instead of traditional layered layouts, the interior functions are ingeniously arranged in a rhythmic pattern, allowing for diverse forms of exploration and functionality along the vertical surface. Each level of the dwelling unfolds like a chapter in a story, inviting residents to embark on a journey of discovery within their own home.
SKYLIGHT: Bridging the Gap to Nature
The skylight in Shelter Stay transcends its conventional role of providing light and ventilation, serving as a portal to the natural world. Adorned with tropical plants, it offers a mesmerizing vista from the bedroom, seamlessly blending the indoors with the outdoors. The staircase, with its elegant design, guides inhabitants on a captivating voyage from the ground floor to the rooftop, where panoramic views of the surrounding landscape await.
Interior Space: A Fusion of Greenery and Functionality
Green natural blocks, both inside and outside the dwelling, serve as multifunctional elements. They not only host lush greenery but also double as furniture pieces, housing wardrobes, work desks, bathrooms, and restrooms. This innovative integration of architecture and interior design fosters spontaneity and diversity within each living space, enriching the inhabitants’ daily experiences.
Craftsmanship and Emotion: A Harmonious Blend
In crafting Shelter Stay, careful attention was paid to material selection, reflecting both craftsmanship and emotion. The exterior features washed stone material with a rugged texture, offering a tactile and visually engaging experience that evolves with the changing light and surrounding greenery. Inside, handcrafted paint adds a natural warmth, creating an atmosphere that resonates with the organic beauty of the landscape.
Shelter Stay transcends the boundaries of a traditional house, offering residents not only a place to dwell but also a gateway to immerse themselves in the wonders of nature within an urban setting.
