Renovated by STUDIOTAMAT, this apartment, inspired by brutalist aesthetics, offers a rejuvenating retreat for a young couple of lawyers. Spanning 120 square meters with expansive windows and a 40-square-meter terrace, the residence embraces abundant natural light and picturesque views of the Castelporziano Nature Reserve and the Roman coast.
Sensuous Materiality
Dubbed Casa Rude for its sensual use of materials, the apartment celebrates exposed reinforced concrete pillars and beams, lending an industrial yet sophisticated charm to its interiors. The studio deftly juxtaposes various tones, textures, and moods, engaging the tactile senses and infusing each space with character. Raw terracotta kitchen tiles and perforated brick walls exude artisanal flair, while meticulously crafted finishes elevate the overall aesthetic.
Loft Living
The living area is conceived as a loft, characterized by open spaces and uninterrupted sightlines. Unfinished walls and continuous flooring create a sense of fluidity, with a multifunctional wooden cube serving as a central focal point. Custom-made furnishings, including a burnt wood dining table and a masonry sofa tailored to the owners’ physicality, add bespoke touches to the space.
Seamless Transition
A perforated sheet metal pivot door marks the transition to the sleeping quarters, where a corridor connects the guest and master bedrooms, ensuites, main bathroom, and walk-in closet. The shift from resin flooring to terracotta delineates the private areas, with the master bedroom featuring a walnut wood wall equipped with ribbed glass doors for flexible spatial arrangements.
Outdoor Oasis
The terrace, spanning the apartment’s southwest side, offers panoramic sunset views and serves as an extension of the indoor living space. An external masonry kitchen, integrated into the parapet, invites al fresco dining, while a wooden-slatted bench provides seating. A brise soleil shields the technical area, while an outdoor shower blurs the boundary between interior and exterior.
