Located in Corrêas, Brazil, the HPZ House, designed by Magarão + Lindenberg Arq and completed in 2023, emerged as a sanctuary during the pandemic period. Conceived as a refuge, the house provides a harmonious blend of nature and modernity, offering a welcoming space for family and friends to gather.
Integrating Sustainability into Design
From its inception, sustainability was a core principle guiding the design process. The architects opted for Glulam (glued laminated timber) as the primary construction material due to its renewable nature and minimal environmental impact. By utilizing industrialized construction methods, such as wall panels and OSB panels, waste was minimized, and water consumption reduced.
Enhancing Thermal Comfort and Visual Continuity
To optimize thermal comfort, the architects incorporated generous eaves and spacious balconies, effectively reducing the need for air conditioning. The use of Italian porcelain tiles in sandy tones, complemented by Peroba Mica wood ceilings, creates a sense of visual continuity throughout the interior spaces.
Bringing Nature Indoors
Large openings and expansive glass elements blur the boundaries between indoor and outdoor spaces, inviting nature into the heart of the home. SkyGarden gardens and greenery further enhance the connection to the surrounding landscape, fostering a biophilic environment that promotes well-being.

In the interiors, a neutral palette provides a backdrop for contemporary Brazilian design furniture, characterized by clean lines and comfortable aesthetics. Traditional elements, such as Muiracatiara wood slats with Shou Sugi Ban treatment, add a touch of sophistication and warmth to the space.
Minimizing Environmental Impact
Efforts were made to minimize land excavation, with the sauna and hot tub positioned below ground level to take advantage of the natural slope of the land. A suspended deck adjacent to the pool eliminates the need for fillings and retaining walls, further reducing the project’s environmental footprint.
