The house, designed for a doctor couple and their four children, serves as a retreat for relaxation and bonding during their visits to Kerala. However, it was also crafted to function as a permanent residence, accommodating various family members and friends. The architectural concept revolves around two distinct parallel bays connected by a central space, creating a seamless flow between different functional areas.

Spatial Organization

The house is meticulously organized to cater to the diverse needs of its occupants. The eastern bay houses the public and semi-private areas, including a visitor’s lounge, formal living, dining, and kitchen, while the western bay accommodates six bedrooms and a compact office space. Two large courtyards enhance ventilation and circulation, providing a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor spaces.

Design Elements

A striking feature of the house is the use of undulating volumes and cantilevered slabs to shade each other from the tropical sun. This design not only creates a visually dynamic facade but also promotes natural ventilation and passive cooling. Additionally, strategically positioned solar panels ensure the house remains self-sufficient and off the grid, contributing to its sustainability.
