Unveiling the Location
Situated in the La Laguna Sector of Maitencillo, Chile, La Laguna House stands as a testament to contemporary residential architecture. Designed by Fantuzzi + Rodillo Arquitectos and completed in 2022, this dwelling occupies a 2500m² plot of land, comprising two distinct volumes strategically positioned to face the vehicular access and oriented towards the northeast. This orientation ensures privacy for the patio area, shielding it from the public eye.
Architectural Composition
The house consists of two primary volumes: one serving as the residential area with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a kitchen-living room, while the other functions as a separate workshop space. This layout, spanning 125m², caters to both living and professional needs, offering a harmonious blend of functionality and aesthetics.
Spatial Organization
Upon entering, visitors are greeted by an open-plan living room and kitchen, characterized by a continuous ceiling crafted from 2×1” brushed pine panels. This design choice contrasts with the layout of the bedrooms and bathrooms, which are conceived as discrete volumes, prioritizing privacy. Such spatial organization ensures that social areas remain open to the exterior patio while providing seclusion in the private quarters.
Materiality and Construction
The volumes are constructed using prefabricated 2×4” pine partition panels, set on a polished concrete floor. External cladding comprises 1×5” pine boards treated with a black stain, while the interior walls feature 15mm plywood lining. Furniture, meticulously crafted on-site, mirrors the materiality of the interior, employing 15mm plywood for a cohesive aesthetic throughout the house.
